Port Moody, City of the Arts
Port Moody is a precious place. The city carved itself a prominent place in the arts community. That happens to make a lot of economic sense because cultural events bring visitors from around the region. I believe in a balanced approach that supports culture, recreation, economic development and protective services.
Vibrant community. Residents tell me they want the city to maintain our beautiful trails, community services, fire and police protection. They also want to build a new fire hall and expand the library and Inlet Park sports field. Our municipal budget has to reflect the kind of community we want to live in.
With the Evergreen Line funding now in place, there are two key priorities. First Council has to pressure the project team to protect existing Port Moody businesses from negative impacts during construction. Second, the new Council has to put a solid plan in place to make sure the city is not run over by speculators rushing to cash in on the new line.
Volunteers make Port Moody a better place to live. The last Council eliminated community grants that had been available to Port Moody groups for over a decade. It is time for the city to reinstate grants for community groups. I will propose modest but much needed capital grants for youth activities and volunteer groups. Engaging youth. I want to find new ways to engage youth in civic affairs because they deserve the same opportunities as previous generations.
Affordable housing. The last two Councils accumulated an affordable housing reserve that just sits in the bank. Well, the economy leaves far too many people behind. I served homeless persons who had jobs but still could not afford housing. It is time to partner with others and allocate funds from that reserve to suitable projects.
Below is a list of endorsements I received from prominent community leaders. Thank you so much for your support! Zoë Royer

I attended the MCCA All Candidates meeting at the Legion and was thrilled to hear you mention that part of your platform includes helping Rayburn Erectors and other industries relocate within Port Moody outside of the heritage district. It would involve a lot of work but that single project would significantly improve the quality of life in my neighbourhood. Council needs more creative, ambitious thinkers like you. You will definitely have my support on November 19th. Good luck.

I want to provide my unsolicited response. The qualities of Zoë Royer mentioned on this site are absolutely correct. I want my councillors to be caring for their community and responsible for their actions. A fresh face like Zoe on Council fits that bill for me and she has my vote!

I look forward to the Evergreen Line but I'm very concerned that it will impact my business. So how exactly do you prevent the Cambie Street disaster from happening here?
Great to see you at the Spike Awards. (Name withheld)
Thanks for your question.
Port Moody doesn't control the Evergreen Line. The project manager reports to BC Minister Blair Lekstrom. Council needs to meet with the Evergreen Line project manager frequently and hold him accountable. My style will be to cooperate with the Province - without being rolled over if they fail to meet the expectations of our residents and business owners. Zoë.

Eagle Ridge Hospital has an overcrowded emergency ward and it only offers limited services. A good friend was admitted recently but had to be transported to Royal Columbian. What are your thoughts?
Sheila Francis, Realtor
Great question Sheila. Cities can have a lot of influence over things they are not responsible for. Health is a provincial responsibility yet we hear about city councils involved in recruiting doctors to Northern BC. Port Moody needs to speak up for more services in our growing community and a decent emergency ward at Eagle Ridge. When I advocate for a complete community rather than a bedroom community, it means a city with jobs, recreation, shops AND decent health care. Zoë.

What's important to me? Affordable housing, local small businesses, green and beautiful places around the city to nourish our souls, support for the homeless, and to combat poverty, ie the real cause of much illness. Personally, I think you are a marvelous asset for Port Moody.
